Alexia Avdelas graduated from The University of Akron with a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a minor in Illustration. She received the 2022 Folk Charitable Foundation Venice Biennale International Travel and Study of Art scholarship and participated in Curated Storefront’s artist residency with international sculptor Chakaia Booker at Akron Public School’s I Promise school. In 2023 she held her first solo exhibition, a sack of milk in the botulism of meat, at Curated Storefront’s Avant Garden Gallery. Avdelas plans on going to graduate school to further her fine arts certification and create more ambitious work. She works at Curated Storefront as the Creative Director’s Project Assistant and is a Museum Liaison for Clayton Bailey’s World of Wonders in Downtown Akron.

“I develop an unbalanced composition by juxtaposing dense layering, line work, and atmospheric space, recalling pasts through the current visual body. I build large-scale, shaped surfaces that express my body as an abstracted vessel. I attempt to overwhelm the viewer with a variety of patterning and line—interlacing and knotting around and through the contorted forms. Exuberance and a lack of restraint are present…with these pieces displayed as more of an install, this brings the conversation into the personal space of the viewer, forcing them to walk around and investigate at multiple angles.” – Excerpt, Artist Statement

Diana Rice is a 2023 graduate of The University of Akron Myers School of Art with a B.F.A. in painting and drawing and a minor in illustration. Rice’s work focuses on her personal history, mythologizing childhood memories, dreams, and familial stories. She draws inspiration from poetry, literature, folklore, and her own writings in her practice. Using traditional and created symbolisms in her artworks, she creates a lyrical reality that is both a true personal record of her life and an otherworldly narrative open to the interpretation of the viewer.

Akron artist Lizzi Aronhalt is here for the buildings! Her architecturally focused work engages themes such as memory, place and the passing of time. She spent time in Southwest Ohio at Miami University where she obtained a B.S. in Art Education and a minor in 2-D media studies. She then lived for two years in Eastern Europe where the diversity of architectural styles informed her love for the rhythm and geometry of buildings. Upon her return to Akron, she began to capture the imagery of the buildings in her hometown with a new perspective and appreciation. Since then, she has captured the iconic and every day on canvas and in large scale murals around northeast Ohio. You can find Lizzi’s working studio on the 3rd floor of Summit Artspace.
