Anywhere, in concept, is a collection of documented memories and memory processes through architectural and cityscape-based paintings. The series serves as a personal reflection and response to the concept of time, along with the common human processes of forgetting and remembering, and the way those human experiences connect to the places in our lives (and my life specifically).
The works are autobiographical in nature, as the locations specifically connect to my own experiences and memories, but I hope they will also connect to my experiences that have been collective or communal in nature. Each work represents not only specific memories but will be created in ways that mimic the way humans understand memories such as through photos, written and verbal accounts, and in the musings of one’s own mind. The works included are a series of semi-abstract to abstract paintings that serve as my artistic interpretation of these processes.
The purpose of this exhibition is to serve as a connection between the world of the mind and the physical world, and to give viewers the opportunity to explore the ways that both individual and collective memory affect our lives. I hope that this exhibition will challenge viewers to reflect on their own experience of remembering and forgetting along with the ways that places can serve as benchmarks of our lived experience.
