36- Max Richardson | Food Is Still Hot | Cuyahoga Falls HS
Acrylic paint, glue, string, wood panel
30″ x 46″
Artist Bio: I am senior at Cuyahoaga Falls High School. This grouping of work is inspired by my investigations into growing up. I turned 18 this year and I’m graduating high school so I took the time I had left to reflect on what I’m leaving behind. Or growing out of, very art student of me. I love to work with paint and big canvases, I mostly do pencil work in my sketchbook or whenever I get bored enough. I like doing whatever I want with art and seeing other peoples interpretations of what art is to them. After I graduate I plan to live my life outside of school. I would like to see what being an adult outside of a scheduled institution is like, I don’t know what I want yet but I’ll get there some day.
Artist Statement: Food Is Still Hot is inspired by a song by Karen O by the same name, she did the soundtrack for Where the Wild Things Are, which is where I got my name, Max, from. It’s about the time my dad made me a huge breakfast of all my favorite foods as a kid, bologna toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, grapes, and a huge mug of milk. All the toys on the floor are toys I played with as a kid, my aunts old Polly Pockets, a parachute man, and some misc dinosaurs. I remember even as a kid I thought it was a lot of food. We went outside and he spun me on my tire swing so fast I got nauseous, the view through the middle is what I would have seen looking through the tire swing. I remember being inside and running upstairs as fast as I could and throwing the entire breakfast up into the toilet, right next to my mom as she did her hair. The lettering is supposed to look like candy bracelet beads all strung together into lyrics from “Hideaway” also by Karen O and in the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack. I chose those lyrics to represent that I’m grown up now and my dad can’t really spin me on a tire swing anymore.
