Theresa Göttl Brightman‘s poems have appeared in many online and print publications, two chapbooks, and one full-length collection, as well as on Akron’s 91.3 WAPS The Summit and 89.7 WOSU Columbus. She has received writing awards from the University of Akron, the City of Ventura, CA, Cleveland Museum of Art, and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, the Rhysling Award, and the Best of the Net Awards. She won the title of Grand Slam Champion of the Northeast Ohio national slam team in 2012, and competed at the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte, NC and at the Rustbelt regional slam in Columbus. She has performed poetry throughout Ohio, and in a smattering of states across the US. She lives in Akron, with her writer husband and the green bird who owns them both. When Theresa and her husband moved to Akron, they repeatedly found folks asking about poetry readings in Akron. Because there didn’t seem to be any regularly occurring poetry readings, along with a friend, they started Latitudes Poetry Night in May 2017. Theresa continues to look for ways to bring poetry into the community and to use poetry as a tool for positive change.
