Akron, OHIO— There is no better place to warm up from the chilly autumn weather than Summit Artspace’s galleries, where five fall exhibitions featuring local artists will be on view from October 8 – December 18. An opening reception will be held on October 8 from 5-7 p.m. at Summit Artspace. The reception is free and open to the public. Several of the exhibiting artists will be present at the opening. All exhibitions will be available virtually on Summit Artspace’s website beginning on October 8.
Artists Meryl Engler and Kristina Malcolm will exhibit their work in solo shows. Engler’s exhibition, Babe…I Thought, will be displayed in the Welcome Gallery. Babe…I Thought is a series of woodcuts that explores the devolution of a relationship through the symbol of the chain-link fence. Summit Artspace will host a “Woodcut Show & Tell” with Engler in the gallery on Saturday, October 23 at 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. No reservation is required.
In TinkeRings, on display in Summit Artspace’s 3G Gallery, Malcolm elevates kinetic jewelry to fine art through exquisite craftsmanship and creates a healing experience for the wearer. Malcolm will offer an artist talk detailing her process on Friday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Summit Artspace.
Three group shows will be on view, showcasing the work of artists involved in the Alliance for the Visual Arts (AVA), the Women’s Art League and the Kent State University Print Media and Photography department.
