Artist awards for the juried art exhibits Femicentric: 2020 Vision and She/Her/Hers at Summit Artspace on East Market will be announced online Thursday, Aug. 20, starting at 7 p.m. Summit Artspace curated the work of local artists for these shows with the focus of women empowerment, suffrage and equity to commemorate 100 years of struggle since passage of the 19th Amendment which confirmed women’s right to vote .

She/Her/Hers is a juried art exhibition by artists who are women and those identifying as women in the THREE G Gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market. Juried by award-winning artist Linda Hutchinson of Kent, the exhibition commemorates the centennial of the 19th Amendment confirming women’s right to vote and the complex advancement women have made toward gender equality.

Set for the main gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market, FEMICENTRIC: 2020 VISION revolves around the themes of liberation, evolution, empowerment, entitlement and the progress of women.
Open to local artists of all genders, the show challenged them to create distinctive work that honors and embodies the impact and legacy of women who have shaped history, who are changing the present, and who will impact the future. The art will be complimented by creatively written artist statements analyzing how their work fits the call for art using poetry, narrative or imaginative linguistics.

GALLERY HOURS: THURSDAYS,12-7 p.m. with 12-3 p.m. reserved for vulnerable populations; FRIDAYS, 12-7 p.m.; SATURDAYS, 12-5 p.m.
Summit Artspace will be following state directives so visitors will need to register for a timed, ticket at Eventbrite. Tickets are free. Your ticket is for 1.5 hours but feel free to stay longer and see the amazing local artwork. Thursdays from 12 to 3 p.m. are reserved for vulnerable populations at Summit Artspace on East Market. In addition, the shows are open starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, and through Artwalk from 5-8 p.m. Artwalk is an art/retail event organized by Summit Artspace on East Market in downtown Akron on the first Saturday of the month.

With re-entry to Summit Artspace on East Market, you can also check out the artists studios . Artists have been back at their studios for several weeks and many of them have continued to create new works that you’ll be able see and purchase. They will be determining their own reopening schedules and guidelines for spending time in their spaces.
